Are you 23?

Post by Esmeralda » Jan Thu 08, 2009 7:49 am

I've seen various pictures of a new advertising campaign that I believe is at MGM - the posters say "Are you 23?". The website is www.disney.com/23.

Does anyone know what this is all about? It's a mystery to me!

Someone on another forum suggestion this solution which seemed very plausible:

"This concept was created because the Company has gotten a LOT of flack saying they only cater to the casual tourist and not to the true Disney fans. It came to a head last year when Iger was berated by a Disney fan who said the Company did not care about them. In the past, all Disney "fan clubs" were run externally. In this case, there is a Company-wide initiative with the D-23 event, as its called. It will be a major push and their hope is to really form a relationship with the true Disney fans.

Essentially people will pay about $100 a year to receive some very cool, exclusive merchandise, CDs, DVDs, etc. They will also be invited to a yearly or bi-yearly (to be determined at the moment) event in Anaheim or Orlando (the first event is scheduled to be in Anaheim). Each Company department will be presenting something unique that Disney fans would appreciate (behind-the-scenes looks at theme park technology, a pre-release screening of a new movie, etc). This convention is expected to be huge, with Disney sparing no expense.

They will be announcing this new program in March."

He has since taken down the post, so he may have gotten in trouble for releasing the info.

There are a lot of rumors about this on other fan-sites too. The exclusive club is definitely an intriguing rumor, but I have also read that it is an exclusive even for DVC members. In essence DVC will offer exclusive regional experiences for DVC members for only 23 points. It is all speculative rumor. There is also a lot of mention of it having something to do with the Walt Disney Company being founded in 1923, although that was October 16, not March 10. Changes are we are going to have to wait 60 days to find out what it really is. (secretly, I am hoping for the exclusive fan club for only $100; I am so there)

I put my e-mail in, I'm dying to know what this is all about. It would be a disappointment if this was only for DVC members. I would pay $100 for the year to be included in some exclusive disney stuff!!! Oh, the anticipation builds!!!!! :D

Got DVC covered too, as well as shareholder, and annual passholder. Tell me I'm not addicted! :D

Wow! That $100 member thing sounds great! I hope it's not the DVC thing. If it truly is something for true Disney fans though, it probably won't encompass only DVC members. There are many true Disney fans who, for whatever reason (there are a bunch), aren't DVC members. We can only hope that it is for all Disney fans!

eh, you only really need 1 of them...

I signed up for this as well (not the kidneys part  ). I almost thought this was some kind of promotion for the Anniversary of MGM (based on the fact that Esmeralda said she saw promos for this at MGM), but I realize that MGM is turning 20 this year, not 23. not sure what it could mean... :? :?:

Wow, it looks like Disney is creating quite a buzz here! I put in my email address, but man, 60 days is a long time to wait to find out. I hope it is worth the wait, heheh!

True Disney fans with no DVC here. We looked into it, but it wasn't fitting to us. As for this, I'm anxious to know what it is.

So many speculations, how exciting! I'm just hoping it's not for a TV show (as with many of the ads at MGM). Maybe it's something super special for people who are 23 (pick me!).

This is from another speculative site:

When one enters their e-mail per the field provided at disney.com/23, the status bar (in the bottom right hand corner of the browser) momentarily displays "Transferring to http://disneypicturesawards.go.com". According to Domain Tools, the IP Location is "California - Burbank - Disney Worldwide Services Inc". The page does not appear to be active, but does contain the following server information in the standard error message,"Apache Server at studioawards.movies.go.com". A similar address, http://disneystudiosawards.movies.go.com/main.html? appears to be a site that Disney uses to present movies for award consideration to those on movie award panels.

If it's for MGM, could it have something to do with American Idol?

A couple of things:

From Wikipedia: There are 32 resorts and hotels located on the Walt Disney World property. Of those, 22 are owned and operated by the Walt Disney Company.

Also, someone mentioned that Pixar is 23 years old in 2009.

Also Disney Adventures has 22 destinations currently.....http://abd.disney.go.com/abd/en_US/inde ... HomePage#2
