Aww, new restriction on requests

Post by Subsonic Radio » Mar Sat 08, 2008 2:23 am

Right when we bring back more streams we take away from those mega posters out there. We're trying a new method of requests. No user can have more than an hour of requests playing or in the queue at the same time.

Need more clarification? Let's say you request four 15 minute tracks. You have to wait until one 15 minute track is finished playing before you can request again. And when you request, you can only request up to 15 minutes.

And, there it is. I hope this will help with people getting more requests in per day.

This is still in a beta phase meaning it's not a permanent change yet.

Sounds like a good plan. Question, though; how does it apply to tracks that are longer than 60 minutes? I know there are a few out there.

Edit: Actually maybe I'll request one and find out. ;)

That sounds fair enough.

That seems like a fair and beneficial improvement

Well as a "mega poster" I dont' have a problem with that - it will sure spread the requests out more and give everyone a chance to hear requests. :D

Sounds fair, but complicated. Since I'm not a numbers person, is this going to require keeping a calculator handy to track my minutes, or will the system do it for me? What will happen if a user requests a track that's longer than the minutes they have available? Will the playlist automatically "gray out" tracks that are too long, like it does for tracks that require more points than you have available? Is this going to be too complicated for new users?

I just tested the time limit thing: it pops up a bubble that says you're over your time limit. ;)

I think this will be a positive change to Subsonic Radio. I would like to know what happens about those longer than 60 min songs. Im guessing you can play one longer than 60 min but thats the only one you can play?

If you have nothing queued, you can request any song, no matter how long it is. So, if you want to request a song that is longer than 60 minutes you must request it first. You can make more requests after that song has finished playing.
