2012 WDW Marathon Weekend

Post by wewantsdaredhead » Mar Tue 15, 2011 12:40 pm

I just registered for the 2012 Half Marathon, so I figured it was time to start a new thread!

Sound off if you are going or thinking about it. Who will I be seeing run past me? ;)

This will be my first half--what a good place to attempt my first one. This will be my wife's 3rd, but 2nd at WDW.
I'm very excited, but also serious about finishing.

I'm still thinking about it.
5K, half and full.
I might try for quicker times....or better pics......or some kind of memory of running around Epcot at the end of the Marathon. My brain erased all the painful bits :)

I notice that I'm starting to convince myself to do it again.........this could get expensive.

DW and I were planning on running it...but we have since put our house on the market and are hoping to move soon. This will postpone our WDW Marathon weekend to 2013...unless things change.

What is sad is seeing how much money we have saved in order to sell our house and move...enough for several years of WDW trips!!!

Hopefully we will be able to continue saving and will be able to set aside money for future WDW trips though.

Would you be able to use the Disney Visa discounts? I didn't look to see if you have to be a US resident or not...

Technically...yes...since WDW is Southeast of where we live now...and we would be moving to the South and East...but only by about 30 minutes. We live in a townhouse right now and are hoping to build one in a suburb a little ways out of town.

We are hoping to save a lot of money while our new house is being built and the plan is to set aside some for a WDW trip. So if we can save enough that trip will come sooner rather than later! :D

No Visa discount for us foreigners :( we arn't allowed a Disney Visa card. We just get the $20 reduction for booking early (before May 15th). So, before food and park tickets, the cost is down to $1980 for the week.... a whole 1% off. whoopee :| .

An extra year to train for the next event up.
5K up to half, half up to full, full up to Goofy, Goofy up to Dopey. Right  . :goofy_bounce:

Is Dopey the medal if you complete the 2 full marathons at WDW and DLR? I heard that there was a nice coast-to-coast medal.

no...Dopey is just when you run the 5k race that Friday along with the Half and Full on the weekend. There is no extra medal or even a true classification...other than you being Dopey for running in races on Friday, Saturday, AND Sunday.

I figure you'd probably be more Grumpy on Monday if you ran in all three races. I know I was definitely Achy the morning after my Half.

I'm glad NaCler asked. I was wondering myself what the Goofy was. If you are already running 40 miles, what's another 3?!
Good one Henry ~ they should have another dwarf for marathon weekend!

Count me in for 2012! I'm thinking 5K and the half. Every time I mention the full, my wife reminds me that I will be 50 next year and that I really need to start acting my age.
Also, is anyone thinking about the Wine and Dine Half in October? From the sounds of the course I think it will be a more entertaining run that the January course. Start at the WWoS, AK, DHS, Boardwalk and finish outside EC. My only issue is that this is a night run and I am definitely a morning person, but it sounds so good I just might have to give it a try.

I would love to get the coast to coast. That would mean 3 trips to the USA in one year (Marathon at WDW, annual holiday with sleepy90 and Disneyland half) total cost around $10,000 before food and park tickets  Dream on.

Alarmingly I'm not far behind you in age terms cccmouse 8-) Do the full before you reach 70. I've heard it gets a little difficult after that. The wine and dine gets rave reviews from proper serious type (Disney loving) runners and the medal looks superb. The Donald lets you run up main street and through the castle. It was worth every step just for that half mile. :) I would love to try the wine and dine as well.......4 trips one year?......I may have to sell the house.

Joe90 - I believe that you are a bad influence on me. You've got me thinking about the full instead of the 5K and the half. For me it's not so much the distance as the amount of time that I feel I would need to invest to properly prepare for a full. I probably need to check with some different sources and see what is suggested to properly train for a full. One hour a day is about all the time that I have during the week and I just don't know if that plus one long distance day each weekend would be enough.

Short answer. Yes it is.

Long answer below :D

By the December before the races I was running 40 to 50 mins on, most but not all, weekdays (6 miles).
Weekends I was doing one long run of 15 to 20 miles (2 to 3 hours).
I did 2 long runs of 25 miles in just under 4 hours. This let me know I was ready.

So that is less than one hour a day weekdays and 2-3 hours at the weekend. And I went Goofy.

What are you waiting for :mickey: :mickey: GO MICKEY !! :mickey: :mickey: You know you want to
