That's so sad. I know that cutbacks these days are something that this country is dealing with right now, but it's just sad to hear a story like this.

Yea it is sad to hear, but a company has to do what it has to do to stay in business and be profitable. This is a recession and things like this are going to be expected.

I have always had to pay for my health care with every company I worked at
and it's an on going struggle for me financially to make ends meet every month so I am sorry if I have no sympathy for folks that are now being asked to pay for a portion of their health care costs. Unfortunately it is the sign of the times they have changed as has our economy. I wish my company would do a 75/25 split for our insurance premiums! I have medical issues that require doctor vists every 3 & 6 months, medicines out the ying yang, so I feel thier pangs the struggles they face financially when it comes to healthcare.

We need health care reform so badly here in the states!

I think that Disney could most definitely give these workers as well as the cast members in the parks a decent hourly rate/salary instead of giving CEO's millions in bonuses, etc., to off set additional cost of living increases they face. Like rising healthcare and gasoline costs!

I hate that it has to resort to any kind of strike by workers to get the attention of the powers that be.

I hope they can come to some sort of an agreement that is beneficial to all involved.

ok off my soap box and back to work.........

Thanks, that one worked. Strikes are always difficult for both parties, hopefully some good comes from it in the end. I agree with bostoncg though, we need Health Care reform so anyone can get decent care without depending on companies to be good to you.

Wow, that's pretty sad. Let's hope that something good happens like Esmerelda said. Seeing people protesting is never a pretty sight.

The protesting doesn't bother me as much, but to do it in costume is over the line. Think of how many kids saw some of them being handcuffed.

that's the point of protesting in costume. It shows the public how callous Disney can be to it's workers who have every right to peacefully protest as stated in the Constitution. They stage a protest, Disney has them arrested, and now Disney's name gets tarnished. It's the way it works in this day-in-age...

but do little kids (3/4 years old) know the difference between a halloween costume and a real face character from inside the park/in a movie?

Were they protesting on private property?

They were arrested for disrupting traffic, not for the protest itself.
Associated Press wrote: ...Those who were arrested sat in a circle on a busy intersection outside the park holding hands until they were placed in plastic handcuffs and led to two police vans while hundreds of hotel workers cheered and chanted.

The protesters were arrested on a misdemeanor count of failure to obey a police officer and two traffic infractions, said Sgt. Rick Martinez of the Anaheim police. They were cited and released, Sgt. Chris Schneider said....
From what I have read about the incident, Disney is trying to negotiate, but the union isn't making a good-faith effort. Perhaps if they would negotiate instead of protest this would be resolved quicker. I have not seen one union representative attempting to state the union's case. They should be using the media to its full advantage instead of dressing up and breaking the law. This does not paint them favorably in my eyes.
