"Disney War"

Post by nancynohorse » Jul Wed 30, 2008 10:07 am

Has anyone else read James Stewart's Disney War?

Here's what is said on amazon.com about it: http://www.amazon.com/Disney-War-James- ... 377&sr=8-1

It's been an interesting "read" (audio book for me) to say the least. Anyone else read it? :mickey:

Yes... That was the eye-opener for me that Eisner ruined Disney and no one will ever be able to fix it. Roy just wanted Eisner gone... he doesn't really care if things get fixed or not.

I got lots of strange looks when people saw me reading it and questions like "Do Winnie the Pooh and Mickey Mouse battle it out?". To which I would reply, "No, this is a chronological examination of the rise and fall of the Walt Disney Company". Then they'd really be weirded out.

It was a very well-written book though. I would recommend to people reading it right after a Walt Disney biography, as it basically picks up where most Walt Disney biographies leave off (EPCOT) giving a quick synopsis of the Miller years before introducing Eisner. (My personal favorite biographies on Walt would be Walt Disney: The Triumph of the American Imagination and How to Be Like Walt)

Now that I'll be heading to the mall today, I should consider buying this if the Borders store has it.

Anywhere to get this in audio format for my iPod? I'd listen to it in the car.
Guess I could check my library for "book on CD" and transfer it - but any other resource to do so?

That is really interesting.. Thank you Nancynohorse for posting this. I had never heard about this book. I had seen the Walt Disney biography at a Borders store recently but I was waiting until I was about to get stranded somewhere for several hours before I actually started reading it because it seems so incredibly long. I just wonder how biased Mr. Stewart is?

JWG, I got a copy of the audio book from Audible ages ago, here's the link:

I've never listened to it, very shortly after I got it, my commute changed and I've had less time for audio books.

I did this for a book report and got an A. I also included some spoof pictures of Eisner getting what he deserved. I hate him!

it's available on iTunes for $34.95. look by author (James B. Stewart) or title (DisneyWar - as one word). it's just under 26 hours long (25:42:09).

One of my all-time favorite pieces of nonfiction. Should be required reading for Disney diehards...

The only part of it I didn't like that much was the detailed description of Eisner's heart attack. I was building up a nice annoyance with him the whole book and then bam, I'm feelin' sorry for the guy...

Trying to get audio version through the library. It's no where in state, so they're doing a check out of state.

I could just buy it, I know... But why not take advantage of my tax dollars if I can. Hoping to have it soon.

I know this is an old posting..but I have read Disney War...and I thought it was an unbelievable book. It really shows you how disfunctional and arrogant executives can get if they dont have controls set in place. Its kind of like a government really...ironically Eisner did refer to himself as "King Eisner". Luckily Bob Iger has mended a lot of the relationships that M.E. destroyed in the last 10 years of his "rein"

I have yet to read this but it's still in my library and amongst the books to read. I may set the current book I'm reading aside and start reading this one. I finally found it buried beneath a bunch of junk in my room. I am excited to read about all the drama that went down.
