Tokyo Disneyland to revamp Jungle Cruise

Post by acp » Jul Fri 12, 2013 4:27 am

New announcement from OLC:
URAYASU, CHIBA— Oriental Land Co., Ltd. announced that the Tokyo Disneyland® attraction, Jungle Cruise, located in Adventureland, will be revamped with the new version opening in autumn 2014.

The Jungle Cruise, which has been popular since Tokyo Disneyland Park opened in 1983, takes Guests on an adventurous cruise through the jungles with a humorous skipper at the helm. The revamped version of the attraction will have new lighting effects and other special show effects. In addition, a specially written musical sound track will be heard throughout the attraction for the first time in any Jungle Cruise. Also, an after-dark only “night cruise” will provide a unique take on the jungle adventure.

The new Jungle Cruise will offer Guests an adventure that is even more thrilling than before. From on board the attraction’s boats, Guests will explore jungle landscapes full of wild animals with the help of their daring and comical skipper who guides them through the beauty and dangers of this exotic world. The adventure includes a startling encounter with one of the animal spirit guardians in the ruins of a lost jungle temple.
(Original PDF announcement is here)

The ride will be closed from January until the autumn next year for the updates.

Sounds interesting. It's certainly one of the rides that's not really been updated much in any of the resorts for many years. It'll be interesting to see how this turns out.

That will be interesting to see what they do with the attraction. I wonder if it will make it's way to the other parks if it is successful?

That would require WDW and/or DLR to spend some money. We all know they're allergic to that kind of behaviour ;)

Seriously though, I wouldn't be surprised if somewhere down the line they did take it over to the US. As I said in the original post, the Jungle Cruise is one of the few attractions that has been pretty much left alone through its history. I'm surprised it's taken this long to do some "updates" to it :?

That and it would be kind of hard when you look at how everything is built up around the DLR JC. :D That and the temple section is right at the start.

They have updated the DLR one with new effects, so it isn't like ours is painfully out of date.

What sort of effects did they put in, or fancify?

The hippo scene was changed, they also added piranhas, and other effects. Looking online they were added in 2005, but still more modern than it was 10 years ago. Apparently our jungle was also declared real in 2010 due to the longstanding presence.

I think we were there in 2005 for the piranhas. A real jungle in Southern Cali ~ interesting!

It's one of the more nostalgic rides, it's the witty skipper patter that keeps it interesting. Still, a "moonlight cruise" sounds interesting.

I love doing regular Jungle Cruise at night. It is different in a refreshing type of way.
